Our adventure begins in Lagos, the vibrant and bustling city that will serve as our base for this epic 14-day journey. Itinerary At a Glance
Day 1-3: Exploring Lagos
Start your exploration with the heart of Nigeria, Lagos. Spend the first three days delving into the city's history, culture, and vibrant street life. Some must-visit places include:
National Museum of Nigeria: Feast on the rich historical and cultural artefacts of Nigeria.
Lekki Conservation Centre: Explore the beautiful nature reserve with canopy walks and sightings of monkeys and birds.
Art Galleries: Discover Nigerian art and crafts by visiting art galleries and local craft markets.
Tarkwa Bay: Relax on this pristine beach or engage in water sports like jet-skiing and surfing.
Freedom Park: Visit this historic site, once a prison, now transformed into a cultural center.
Lagos Markets: Explore local markets like Balogun Market and Tejuoso Market to hunt for traditional fabrics and unique souvenirs.
Day 4-6: Lagos to Abeokuta
Embark on a journey to the ancient city of Abeokuta, which takes about 2 hours from Lagos. It is known for its numerous rock formations, rich history and vibrant Yoruba culture. Highlights include:
Olumo Rock: Climb to the top of this iconic rock formation for a breathtaking views of the city. Spend time with the aged guides who act as spiritual custodians of the rock, as they regale you with traditional tales and historic significance of the rock.
Adire Market: Visit the ancient pits to see the intricate art of adire (traditional indigo-dyed fabric) making. Get to purchase some as souvenirs, whilst enjoying some of the local delicacies at the market.
Museum and Presidential Library: Visit Fela Kuti’s ancestral home, now a museum, for fascinating insights into the illustrious Kuti family. Explore the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library for artefacts and documents detailing Nigeria's political history.
Day 7-9: Lagos to Calabar
Fly from Lagos to the breathtaking city of Calabar, on the coast of southern Nigeria. Calabar offers a mix of natural beauty and fascinating history. Experiences not to be missed include:
Cross River National Park: Discover the tropical rainforests and diverse wildlife in this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Slave History Museum: The port of Calabar was one of the busiest departure points during the Atlantic slave trade, giving it an important role in Black Heritage tours.
Marina Resort: Enjoy various outdoor pursuits in this serene environment, visit the mini zoo, or take a relaxing boat ride along the Calabar River.
Day 10-12: Lagos to Abuja
Fly from Lagos to Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, where you will notice a blend of modern architecture and rich cultural heritage. Key attractions include:
Aso Rock: Visit the prominent Nigerian landmark, a 400-meter tall rock formation.
Nigerian National Mosque and Nigerian National Christian Centre: Explore the two iconic religious sites.
National Children's Park and Zoo: Enjoy a fun-filled day exploring the zoo and engaging in family-friendly activities.
Arts and Crafts Village: Buy beautiful Nigerian handicrafts as souvenirs.
Street Food: Sample local delicacies and drinks of Northern Nigeria. Popular ones include Suya, Tuwo, Masa, Kunun, Zobo, etc.
Day 13-14: Lagos
Return to Lagos for your final days in Nigeria, soaking up the vibrant atmosphere and discovering even more of the city's hidden gems. Suggestions for your last two days include:
Lagos Street Food Tour: Embark on a street food tour visiting iconic spots on Lagos Island, Surulere, Ilupeju and Ikeja in the hunt for local favourites such as Amala & Gbegiri, Moin-Moin, Ewa Aganyin, Isi-Ewu, Fish Pepper Soup and, of course, Jollof Rice.
Lagos Art Scene: Visit art galleries and studios such as the Art Twenty One Gallery, Nimbus Art Gallery and Omenka Gallery, to explore the eclectic art scene.
Live Music Extravaganza: The Lagos music scene is where many artistes cut their teeth and get their break. Make the most of your evenings by visiting bars and venues with live music performances to saturate yourself in energetic Afrobeat sounds, and get a front seat row to hear up-and-coming music genres before they go mainstream.
Lagos Beaches: Relax at Elegushi Beach or Tarkwa Bay. Whilst there, treat yourself to the ‘catch of the day’ - legendary Lagos seafood ranging from freshly caught lobsters, langoustines, crabs, snails, etc. Enjoy a range of water based activities, sports and entertainment.
Day 15 - Departure
